Camping on the Rocks

Smoothened red rocks with sparse vegetation dominate the landscape.
We have moved farther north towards the Norwegian border. To cross the border to Norway we need to vaccinate Umbria. Therefore, we have stopped at the small coast village of Kungshamn.

The area here is pure red rock. During the Ice Age the stones were smoothed into rounded blocks, stacked up to about 100m, forming large areas of land. Towards the coast the rocky ground is mingling with the sea, like the fingers of a hand that is pressed flat on the shore and the water is flowing between them.

Huts and marina squeeze between the rocky landscape.
The sea here is called Sagerrak. It is the connection of the North and Baltic seas squeezed in between Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Though the weather and sea here are pretty stormy and rough, the surface between the rocky fingers is flat like a mirror. Patches of red painted houses are all over, with many of them directly at the water, being houses for the inhabitants and garages for their boats.

Awakening village in early morning light.
Our camp site is on an elevated area within view of the coast. There are two meadows for campers, but many locations for vans are built directly on the rocks that are surrounding the flat meadows. We decide to go for the rocky spots. Instead of sitting in the middle of the busy area we and another van are sitting high above the hustle and bustle of the vacationers with a beautiful view of the rocky landscape and the sea in the distance.

When we leave our RV, a small foot path emerges into the wild rocks. After 5 minutes the path ends up between the red rounded stones, and we can start a climbing tour. For Swiss people the term climbing is certainly not appropriate. But the ground is very much like in the mountains, only less steep, and walking is easy without using your hands. Also the vegetation is alpine: bushes, hardly any trees, a lot of moss and small flowers.
After 15 minutes we reach the end of the hill and have a beautiful view of the next village, with many houses congregated around a finger of water. We sit down for a while to enjoy the quietness and view with the dog stealing a couple of kisses. Though it is 9:30pm the sun is still up and illuminates the sky into a dark pink.

What a great end of a day.
Who is stealing kisses?
