We walk on the sandy bank of the river

JY and Umbria enjoy the warm sun.
... while a huge container ship is passing by. We have arrived at the Elbe River and enjoy the warm sand and the ships on the river with the silhouettes of the Hamburg harbour in the distance. Many years ago, I spent a lot of time in Hamburg and its surroundings. When I think about Hamburg large vessels, harbour and docks come into my mind. A sandy beach had never appeared.

I join the campers next to our RV for a beer. They are living 13km from here. Even for them having a sand beach within sight of one of the largest harbours in Europe is quite a surprise. They heard about it on local TV and decided to check it out.

This area is the subject of controversial political discussions because there are plans to increase the depth of the river to allow larger vessels to enter the harbour of Hamburg. Nature activists are concerned that this project will have a negative effect on the beaches and the environment here.

If you are familiar with European geography you might ask how Hamburg can be on the way to Scotland. No worries. It is not. We have just changed our plans.

Preparing for a business meeting.
I was invited to a job interview in Hamburg. Therefore, we switch from the UK to the Scandinavia route. Scandinavia has been already on our list for the next year. Therefore, it is not a big deal to adjust the planning.
Having had a few job interviews in many countries around the world, there is still room for a new experience. As we have no car and the job interview is only 3km from the camp site, I decide to ride the scooter to go to the interview office. Doesn’t it look cool? Uncle in his office suit and tie riding on a hip motor scooter.
