Changes in
life can be gradual or abrupt. Sometimes changes can only be identified after a
long period. Others hit like an earthquake: immediately and hard. Everybody has
encountered each of them, and could tell stories about it.
Last year
my career was hit by an earthquake, and so my life changed abruptly. Difficult to
say if it was a 5 (moderate), 6 (strong) or 7 (major) on the Richter scale. The
earthquake has cracked the surface, and dormant desires could materialize in a vision
for the future. We decided to trade our apartment for an RV and to spend the
next months traveling through Europe.
We spent a quiet,
pleasant summer and autumn planning the details for the change. Last month the
point of no return has come: we canceled the contract for our home. Now we feel the earth tremble. Not like an earthquake, more like a tsunami, as gradual as a tsunami
can be. We could see and hear the wave coming for a long time, could
feel how the water was slowly elevating us, still being calm on the surface. Next week we will pick up our RV and prepare it for D-day, when the movers
are coming in 4 weeks.
Then we will ride the tsunami’s crest, hopefully without toppling
over.
